Phinney Ridge is the neighborhood surrounding the Woodland Park Zoo, at the top of the hill from Ballard, Fremont, and Green Lake. Classic craftsman homes, beautifully restored, line the ridge. Many homes enjoy gorgeous views either of the Sound and Olympic Mountains on the west or of Green Lake and the Cascades on the east.
Historically Phinney Ridge has had very few apartment and condo buildings, but almost every new development along Phinney Ave. has added a few more. Phinney Ave is also the center of Phinney Ridge commercial activity. The Woodland Park Zoo and playground, the Norse Home retirement center, the Phinney Ridge Neighborhood Association Activity Center, Red Mill Burgers, Mae’s Cafe, Herkimer Coffee, and The Frock Shop are just a few of the neighborhood’s icons. Additional independent and beloved pubs, restaurants, markets, boutiques, antiques, and many other wonderful shops round out the retail options which continue seamlessly along Phinney Ave. north as it merges into Greenwood Ave. and the Greenwood neighborhood.
Off of Phinney Ave., Phinney Ridge is a quiet neighborhood is filled with nice homes, pocket parks, a community P-Patch, a few churches, and friendly neighbors out with their kids or dogs enjoying all that Phinney Ridge and the surrounding areas have to offer. When residents have the urge to explore outside of their walking routes, Phinney Ridge is a quick bus, bike or drive away from just about anywhere you’d want to go.
