Lake Forest Park
The city of Lake Forest Park is true to its name. In addition to being on the forested northwestern shore of Lake Washington, more than a dozen creeks and surrounding wetlands fill the city with lush habitat for salmon, birds, and people. The Lake Forest Park Stewardship Foundation works tirelessly to educate the public and offer classes and events to involve residents in the protection of the city’s natural wonders. Residents also like to try their hand at shaping the environment immediately surrounding their homes. The annual Garden Fair and Tours gives the community an opportunity to view their neighbors’ handiwork up-close.
The competition for loveliest yard on the Garden Tour must be stiff. Even the smallest home in Lake Forest Park is generally on a large lot with numerous mature trees and plantings. A large number of the homes also have beautiful Lake Washington views. Prices are moderate – ranging from small relatively affordable homes and condos to million dollar plus homes along the lake. One of the oldest and most expensive of the city’s neighborhoods is the lakefront community of Sheridan Beach which was platted in 1927 and maintains a private, resident only, beach and sail club on Lake Washington. Private club privileges are available for all Lake Forest Park residents just around the tip of Lake Washington at another of the area’s historic institutions, Inglewood Golf Club in Kenmore.
Third Place Books is another strong community institution, but membership here is free and public. Located in Lake Forest Park Towne Centre since 1998, the store hosts events many nights of the week. Author readings, storytelling, live music, art classes, and other entertainment are offered in the store and in the adjoining Third Place Commons (a stage and seating, food court, chess boards, meeting/classroom, and occasional indoor Farmer’s Market). A wonderful outdoor Farmer’s Market is also hosted by Friends of 3rd Place Commons in the Towne Centre parking lot May-October. The Towne Centre also houses a branch of Shoreline Community College and a King County branch library.
As part of Shoreline Public School District, Lake Forest Park children have access to excellent public schools. A handful of quality private schools also service the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park area, including the Evergreen School, widely recognized and honored for its active environmental stewardship programs.
Lake Forest Park lies right along the Burke Gilman bicycling trail and highway 522. It also has easy access to the I-5 and I-405 freeways, providing an easy commute to Seattle and the cities on the eastside of Lake Washington. A lovely, quiet home among nature with a strong community and easy access to city amenities – Lake Forest Park offers it all.
